As I look back, it seems like a lot has happened this past year, but at the same time, nothing.

Work has been extremely tough for me this year. I am still employed as a land surveyor by day, but no longer carry a part time gig at night as a sound engineer. The establishment that I worked at decided to take the minimalist approach to marketing and promotion to say the least. Instead they have decided to close the night club portion of the facility and continue the "greasy spoon" type menu, catering to the local jobless contractors in the morning.

I have tried to make things happen this past year, and things did.. to some degree. But not to the fullest extent that I would like.

I guess I really don't have a whole lot to say, or maybe I just don't really want to be a blogger. Bitter, maybe.

I am keeping my eyes and ears wide open. Staying positive at all times.

I'm the Sound...Man.

Hey ya'll!! (Lame..) Time for an update! Like anyone actually reads this. Well maybe...

Almost a month ago I was asked to be a "House Soundman" for a local night club. They had recently undergone a remodel and needed someone to handle and manage the newly installed sound system, as well as be the on staff Mix Engineer to properly provide sound for all of their "Live" performances.

Techy Stuff (For those who are interested):

At first I was a little intimidated by the new digital console (Tascam DM 4800) that was installed. I'm an analog guy, and stuck in my ways. Nothings more fun then sorting through a spaghetti mess of XLR inserts, patch cables, 1/4", and "wall-warts." Not to mention a rack full of compressors, gates, eq's, and fx. I have to say I was a little disappointed to find out the new board wasn't an Allen & Heath nor a Yamaha or Digidesign. It was a Tascam. A digital console completely designed to be in a studio, and yet seams to intigrate quite well into a "Live" setting. It has 48 channels of input, 24 channels of stereo bussing ( Yeah!... 24!), and 12 Aux sends. 4-band sweep EQ, compressor, gate, TC Works delay & reverb on all channels all in one box. Pretty killer. I'm sending a stereo feed through DBX Dsp processing to control the room, Eq, and speaker management, running staight on through to Crown cti series amps and JBL mains. Bitchin Camero! I'm sending my lows through an "Aux" feed, Big Mick style, to my Peavey driven subwoofers and reinforcing the stage monitor mix with a few...I know...Iknow... Behringer monitors and QSC amps. Except for the drum monitor. There, I mounted a 12" JBL passive monitor atop and active Mackie 15" subwoofer. Yeah, that's right, the drummer gets his/her own sub! Rockin! Oh, and my mic list, well it has improved too. A cornucopia of Sennhieser, Audix, and Shure.

End Techy stuff.

Summer Time! I'm now 30!

Summer time is now in full swing! My 20's are officially over and I am still recovering from a fun filled weekend at Lake Nacimiento. It wasn't like I actually did anything exhausting, but after spending a few days on a boat and in the sun, I need a vacation! It drains you! Or maybe it's the fact that I am just getting older. I greatly appreciate all my friends and family who came out and enjoyed a good time with me. The big meal and photo-op at Bubba's completed the weekend. Since my 25th Birthday, I have had the chance to meet up with my close friends every 5 years to celebrate. I am looking forward to my 35th. But this time we will be leaving our tents at home for a cabin at Miller's Landing on the water at Bass Lake!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://trentlochridge.blogspot.com/2009/07/summer-time-im-now-30.html' title='Summer Time! Something has come over me recently that I can't explain. I have this great urge to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Maybe its the weather? Maybe the time change? Dunno?
Recently, Christy and I went out on a small adventurous hike in San Luis Obispo. We set or course for Bishops Peak.
(GPS Coordinates:N.35.302474 and W. -120.697395)
Bishop Peak is one of nine major peaks that lie in a linear fashion extending from San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay. Bishops Peak is part of a Natural Reserve covering 350 acres and is open to the public.
We accessed one of the three main trailheads from Highland drive. From there, we followed the path up to a "Y" where we continued straight on though to the top. With a round trip hike around 4 miles, we easily tackled it in under two hours.
The hike was just what we needed. It gave us a chance to get out and enjoy day, as well as each others company.

Make Things Happen.

So we can all agree that 2008 was a real dog-dump of a year. Besides the fact that I got married, nothing seem to be going smooth. About a month prior to the wedding, my engineering business began to slow down. Fast! I began pulling from all resources to fill the void of less and less income.
It had been almost 10 years since I had entered the job market. A real eye opener. I had all my eggs in one basket, not a good idea. But I didn't loose my job completely, I just took a large hit. So to help bring in a little more income, I landed a second job with a small boutique hotel here in Paso Robles. Hotel Cheval.
My official title is Assistant Caretaker. Yeah, can you believe it? The caretaker needs an assistant. Pure laziness if you ask me. My duties include anything and everything to maintenance in and around the hotel. The pay sucks and there is only so much to be done until the sun sets, then it's pure boredom until I get off at 9:00 p.m.
I work 7 days a week now, and I need a break. This workin' 2 jobs bit is really starting to eat into my marriage and my social life. I'm never home! I'm feeling some dramatic changes for 2009. I've said it once and I will say it again...

2009 is the year that good things will happen.

I will make things happen.

Jumping on the bandwagon.

So my wife told me I should start a blog... Wait a minute!... What?! I am really not too confident on how long this is going to last, because I have tried to keep journals in the past and I have always failed. You know exactly what I'm talkin' about. Right?
Well, I feel the need to give some sort of introduction then. My name is Trent, I am 29, and I currently reside in a small town in California called Paso Robles. For those that don't know (although it's highly unlikely that anyone that doesn't know me will read this) it's half way between L.A. and S.F. I work for a local civil engineering company as their Chief Land Surveyor, and up until October of last year that has been my only job for the last 10 years. I have a few hobbies, a few friends, a couple of dogs, and I recently got married in May of 2008.

That about sums it up for now.
